Oil Sands / Alberta Based Courses

  • H2S Alive (Enform program): This course is 1 day and is intended for anyone in the oil industry who could possibly be exposed to hydrogen sulphide. Topics include physical properties of H2S, health hazards of H2S, protection from H2S, basic rescue techniques, hands-on experience that includes:, operating a self-contained breathing apparatus, perform rescue lift and drag exercises. Upon successful completion of the written exam with a minimum score of 70%, student will receive a Certificate of Completion that is valid for three years.
  • OSSA Fall Protection: We offer OSSA End User Fall Protection Group, course includes the following:, fall accident statistics, governing bodies and regulations, dynamics of falling, fall protection systems, fall protection planning, fall arrest system components, clearance & free fall calculations, harness fitting, equipment care and inspection, suspension trauma, rescue principles. Students will spend "hands on" time utilizing fall protection equipment. Applicable legislation is discussed in class. A course manual will be supplied for each student. Upon successful completion of written exam (passing mark 80%) student will receive a wallet card which is valid for 3 years.
  • OSSA Confined Space Entry and Monitor: We Offer Fusion Safety services OSSA Certified Confined Space Entry and Monitor Course Course includes the following: The OSSA Regional Code of Practice requirements, definition of confined and restricted spaces, confined space levels, legislation requirements (Safety and Protection), hazardous substances and energy (Isolation), testing and atmosphere, ventilation and purging, neutralization and Inerting, entry permit system, confined space monitor responsibilities, emergency response, personal protective equipment, definitions, confined space incidents case studies. A course manual will be supplied for each student. Upon successful completion of written exam (passing mark 80%) student will receive a wallet card which is valid for 3 years.
  • Global Ground Disturbance: Level II is a 6.5-hour program with the first two hours encompassing Level I. Level II is designed for any party that is supervising a ground disturbance, independently performing a ground disturbance, or issuing and receiving ground disturbance permits. The program ensures that Level II personnel are familiar with, and fully understand, all the regulations and variances involved when a ground disturbance takes place. The course is presented in a logical sequence – from the pre-planning stage to the actual dig – and highlights the “‘musts” compared to the “shoulds”. Level II is the standardized program recognized by industry regulators. The prerequisite for this course is the successful completion of Level I. Participants learn how to clarify sources when searching for underground facilities, provide notification to the facility owner and receive owner notification. Participants gain an understanding of the necessary approvals/crossing agreements and regulations necessary before creating a ground disturbance. They learn to create a plot plan/site drawing, gain an understanding of line locating and learn about types of exposure. Participants will also learn how to do a back-fill inspection, as well as how to use permits and conduct pre-job meetings. Emergency response plans and what to do in case an underground facility is contacted are also covered. Objectives are tested by written competency exam. Certification, valid for three years, is issued upon completion of objective.
  • OSSA Elevated Work Platform: This Elevated Work Platform (EWP) course is approximately 8 hours in duration and includes an instructor led power point presentation, videos, class exercises, inspection and use of an EWP and written knowledge test. Course includes; Legislation and Standards as they relate to Elevated Work Platforms, employer and Worker Responsibilities, elements of Pre-Work Planning, load Limitations and Calculations, stability, pre-Use Check and Visual Inspection, personal Protective Equipment Requirements, system Components, working from Heights, platform Types, machine Specific Features, safe Operation, the Training and Competency requirements, rescue and Escape Planning, recognition, Evaluation and Control of Hazards. Objectives are tested by written competency exam. Certification, valid for three years, is issued upon completion of objectives.
